I lost my dad 15 years ago today. For those who never had the pleasure of knowing him:
• He picked me up from elementary school on a motorcycle, so most of my classmates were scared of him
• Back in 2003 the Black Eyed Peas released Elephunk (lol) and I was so psyched about it that he spent 4 days driving around nj to find one in stock for me
• He surprised me with my first cat, Tiggs, by hiding him inside of his jacket for 45 mins and not saying a word until I was totally convinced a random cat was stuck in the walls. I had Tiggs for 19 years!!
• In high school a teacher was being creepy with a student so he helped disassemble his car and put it on the roof
• He self taught himself 6 different instruments and played them fluently
• My parents were chased by a shark on one of their first dates and that still makes me lol
• Every snow storm my dad was building us igloos, every summer he was making makeshift water slides in the backyard
• We’d hold our breath whenever he’d get gas because if it went up even 3 cents we’d have to hear about it the entire ride to our destination
• He looooooooooooved being Italian and was very strict on Sunday dinners (god forbid a 14 year old has a social life!!)
• I always knew my dad as being shy, but on the day of his wake the room was so full that I almost had to crowd surf to the exit. We didn’t recognize half the people there, which spoke to how often he went out of his way to improve the lives of everyone he met
I can go on and on about how cool he was. A total goof. I miss him every day. Light a candle for my pops - la sua luce vive ancora tra noi 💜
Had the pleasure of shooting this ✨VERY COLORFUL N QUEER N GROOVY✨ book release party. Whatta slam dunk of an evening!!
In the books (no pun intended) as the most vibrant event I’ve photographed this year. Thanks so much to @morgan1st , @tylerballiet , @tristatratos , @rosewinemansion , all the pretty faces in the room, etc. etc. etc. :-)
A lot of what I had left of my dad after he passed were people telling me how much I looked like him. This piece hangs in my studio and I get asked about it a bunch - which reignited my love for it!!
This is “Pieces of My Parents,” a collage made from old photos of my parents (mainly my pops) in their early 20s, layered on a portrait of me. Nothing has been altered to make it “perfectly fit,” which MAKES IT EVEN CREEPIER 👹 It was featured in one of my first art shows back in 2021
I originally made it as a joke to settle the “who do you look more like?” debate, but the result ended up being real emotional for me so I pivoted into making it an art piece :-)
