🎙️CatchLight and The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant Present: When Seeing Might Not Be Believing, truth, trust and the future of visual journalism Saturday 16th May 2026, 6:30–7:30pm @photolondonfair A panel conversation with Ari Abelson, Krishna Sheth and Anastasia Taylor-Lind, moderated by Emma Blau FRSA, with an introduction by Erica Garber. The discussion addresses how visual journalism operates under increasing pressure from AI-generated imagery, accelerated news cycles and declining public trust, focusing on the processes of selection, verification and authorship in contemporary editorial practice. The talk brings together perspectives from photojournalism, picture editing and AI development to consider how authenticity is defined and maintained across global news reporting, alongside the institutional and ethical frameworks shaping the field. 🔗 Link in our bio to book your spot Slide #2 Photo Credit: Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump is surrounded by U.S. Secret Service agents after an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa., July 13, 2024. Photographs for @theeconomist accompanying writer Jack Shenker smart analysis of the rise of Reform politics amongst the rich and working class. We spent three days at the Talbot in Blackpool, Britain’s first self-styled Reform pub, to try to understand the point of view of potential voters. A complex subject and difficult to articulate visually. Minus the teal branding, this club isn’t any different to the working men’s clubs I grew up with or that my parents still frequent. Some decent people, some politics that in no way align with my own. Images from the edit and some of my favourite outtakes. Thank you @hb__________ @krishnasheth @1843mag @theeconomist — “It’s right here, where the cold, hard practicalities of economic insecurity get tangled up with something fuzzier—nostalgia, resentment and a sense of loss—that Reform’s messaging hits home. In contrast with the pallid, technocratic diagnoses offered by Britain’s main political parties, Reform has articulated people’s grievances with a bluntness that resonates.” Some more images + outtakes from @theeconomist story with Jack Shenker. Don’t forget to #vote

In this weeks 1843 long read of the The Economist - Some 3,000 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents—widely known as ICE— have been sent to patrol the streets of Minneapolis and St Paul. On January 7th Renée Good, a poet and mother of three, was fatally shot by an ICE agent. In the wake of her death, thousands of protestors took to the streets. Just over two weeks later Alex Pretti, an intensive-care nurse, was shot and killed by ICE agents. This weeks cover for @theeconomist - Federal action in the streets of Minneapolis goes well beyond immigration. It is a test of the government’s power to use violence against its own citizens—a dividing-line between liberty and tyranny. And it will not be the last. Photo: Victor J. This weeks international cover for @theeconomist on “scrap the asylum system” and build something better! So grateful for the image cover by @alecegarra . The image is part of his project The Two Walls. In this photo series, Venezuelan photographer Alejandro Cegarra documents the plight of migrants trying to reach the US from Mexico’s border and the impact of the increasingly tough immigration policies enforced by the neighbouring countries. The Two Walls won the World Press Photo contest 2024 @worldpressphoto Cover Art Director @ben.shmulevitch #magazinecover #economist #coverjunkie #editorialphotography #documentary

l’m really pleased to share our latest photo essay on the long-term project, “Critical Minerals-Geography of Energy,” by @davidemonteleonestudio on 1843 Magazine. @theconomist , Also including images by @guerchomndebo / @davidemonteleonestudio “In these photographs, Davide Monteleone, an Italian artist, captures the transformation of geological substance into economic resources. In Chile, he sees the millions of tonnes of rocky overburden and slag that stand like mountains above an abandoned company town. In Indonesia, he sees the bedrock once deep under the sea transformed into industrial capacity and jobs, and the forests that grew on the rocks’ ultramafic soils displaced and devalued. In Congo, cobalt miners at work festoon a white-rock cliff like a colony of seabirds. He offers no judgment, just the spectacle of the process. Which never stops.” - Oliver Morton @instituteartist #criticalmass #PhotoEssay #TheEconomist #picofthedays #DocumentaryPhotography #VisualStorytelling #Lithium #Cobalt #EnergyTransition #DavideMonteleone #1843Magazine #editorialphotography

It’s not often I post but turning 60 deserves a mention! I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for all the love and support that made my 60th birthday truly unforgettable! It all started with a lovely family garden party over a month ago, and then the magic continued with an incredible trip to Mykonos with my girlfriends. Last week came the Studio 54 party at Farzi cafe hosted by my brothers, followed by special dinners and rejuvenating spa treats has left me feeling so blessed. I also want to thank everyone for their messages. Every moment was a gift, and I can’t thank my amazing family and friends enough for making this milestone so extraordinary. Here’s to all of you who made it epic! It’s time to put my feet up and catch my breath 💕💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏 #60
