Winter on the boat going through the river is more mind blowing than I’d ever of thought. The way the ice moves and the noises it makes are an eerie reminder of just how winter is so powerful.
Over the last three weeks, I started a new job aboard the ore boats on the Great Lakes. Traveling around on these massive 700+ feet freighters from the 1940’s and 1970’s. It’s different, I’ll give you that, and I really enjoy cooking for the crew. I’ll let you in more as I go.

Amulet Bracelet for the Unicorn Hunt, 2024. The charm bracelet dates back to prehistory as an amulet meant to protect its owner from the evil eye. The forms, either representative or direct, were there to prevent the evil eye from looking in: the figa, eye agates, teeth, horns, and thorns. They are there to bite back and confuse demons. The figa, the clasped fist with the thumb through the index and middle fingers, makes demons unable to count just how many fingers you have and, therefore, cannot curse you properly. Medieval knights and hunters carried and made charms with and for their conquests.
A mid-1800s fox-hunter charm bracelet from the Black Forest inspires this unicorn-hunter bracelet.
The Hunt of the Unicorn closed yesterday at Hoofprint and I want to thank you all for supporting this creative change in my life. As a maker and metalsmith, I feel stronger with community. Thanks be to Anna Wagner for being able to curate this amazing show and Sloane for their otherworldly writings.

Fossilized shark teeth and baroque pearls stuck together with two-part epoxy on an oval mirror. Teeth and pearls were sourced from a suburban thrift store. I have more teeth if you’re keen of fossilized shark teeth.
