Coming to NZ for the first time, I spent a few weeks in Auckland and a couple months in Nelson, visiting Abel Tasman Nationalpark, Takaka, Farewell Spit and Nelson Lakes. But it wasn’t til I reached the West Coast and drove up to Karamea that the land and nature really fascinated me. Loved a day hike from Karamea on the Heaphy track (it was partly closed at that time so no way to do the full track). Ever since loved the wild and rough West Coast which funnily out of all places has become my home. Despite sandflies, roughness and remoteness it’s still a paradise for us and our little kids! #newzealand #explorenewzealand #southisland #westcoast #karamea #wildernessliving #remotelife

Fun fact: I was only going to travel NZ for 7 months. Didn’t like the thought of spending a winter here but not long after traveling around the South Island, I decided to quit my job in Germany and changed all plans to stay the full 12 months of my visa. Little did I know when this photo was taken in Milford Sound that it’ll all come different and I would never leave :) and who would have guessed that my future home was just a few bays away from Milford Sound 🏔️
