ONE YEAR OF I NEED U MORE
— part personal diary, part social commentary. it speaks to the reliance we place on broken systems: governments, religion, flawed intimacy, drugs, alcohol, consumerism, industry. it’s about what we’re forced to consume to survive, and what we must hide to be believed.
flashing lights represent government surveillance. starlight blue is the illusion of liberty. the bridge questions whether success is even possible without moral compromise and comments on the indifference of the rich to the plight of the people. whether they truly see the poor or if they’re too hardened by comfort to witness discomfort. unethical, out of touch, and disgustingly inconsiderate, selfish, and lazy.
all of this over an unassuming, bright, happy-sounding track with a bass sample from one of the best-feeling songs i’ve enjoyed all my life.
i deeply believe beauty and Art must be forms of memory, protest, and survival. there’s no more time for anything less.
