Five years.
Nature. Community. Connection.
That is what we're fostering here.
The last year has felt....different. It felt like a lot of pushing uphill. I'm so sick of people telling me to post more on social media if i want to be successful. I want to get my hands in the soil, dirt under my fingernails, and my arms around anyone that needs love.
I want to make the world more beautiful on the outside and make sure each person that steps into my shop knows that I can see just how beautiful they are on the inside. That yes, they absolutely CAN do this little thing - care for a plant. They can grow beautiful things and build a beautiful community.
I want to drench the world in green.
I want to save the farms and the forests and the bees. And somehow while I'm at it, I wanna save all of the shelter dogs and the non-binary kids and reproductive rights.
Sometimes it all feels so overwhelming, because it's hard to save the contract or meet the order minimum or make rent. Itās hard to stay competitive, to stay relevant, to stay HERE.
I refuse to let this become some kind of elitist hobby. Plants should be everywhere. they should be affordable. Accessible. No matter whether you want to eat them, drink them, smoke them, or put them on your windowsill.
The Shop changed a lot this year. I got to do a lot less of what lights me up. But Iām going to change that. We're on the verge of something exciting and new, and I don't know exactly when. But iāll know when it feels right. I always do.
If there's a small business that you love in your community, you need to be showing up for them. Small shops are struggling. And I think it's possible that we should all be asking ourselves - if we can't afford to shop small, can we afford to have it? Because what is the true cost? The price you'll pay, the price we'll all pay, is the death of all the small businesses you love. The coffee shops. The dive bars. The boutique plant shops. Until all that's left is Walmart and Home Depot. The cost is the death of choice. The death of community.
But. These are tomorrow problems. Today we fucking party. Im so lucky to do this with you for another year.
See you in the photobooth.

After two years, it is time to say goodbye for now to our little shop on Porter Road. As of Sunday, we will be closing the doors to our brick & mortar until further notice.Ā
Knockin Roots has been lucky enough to have a brick and mortar for the last five years. Three different spaces, eachĀ with their own charm and character. Each very dear to my heart. I shared so many beautiful experiences with my community in those rooms. But the last few years have been hard. Labor, material costs, and tariffs have gone up and up. And the number of peopleĀ walking throughĀ our doors has gone down drastically. Last year, I said this all felt like pushing uphill. That has changed to the feeling of taking on water. There is only one choice to make - either take a knee until we can stabilize and hopefully fully reopen, or continue down the current path and lose Knockin Roots forever. Some of yaāll have this brand tattooed on your body, so there really isnāt a choice in my eyes :) We will pivot.Ā
Itās been hard to talk about this change. While Iām excited about the new things I have planned, closing the door on the current version is painful. It is hard to let go of something I worked hard to build - to admit it isnāt working. But I wonāt give up on Knockin Roots if you wonāt.Ā
Okay fine, so we will no longer have a traditional plant shop. But then again - did we ever? I think we have something much bigger than that. We have a community where connecting with one another thru connecting with nature binds us. We can carry that with us anywhere.Ā
What we will do at Knockin Roots is continue to host our community-focused markets with our amazing partners across town. Hell, maybe we will start up some more. Weāll continue our classes and botanical bars. Weāll stock even more inventory in the incredible businesses that carry our plants. Weāll continue our design work, our consultations and our comical attempt at an online store. Weāll keep our beloved staff employed. Weāll shift our offerings to align with what we love, which is spending time with you. And we will hope that we see you more.
Stay tuned. You know Iām always up to something.Ā This isnāt goodbye, itās see you around.

For the entire month of February we will be collecting pet food donations! We have recently been working with our friends over at Nashville Community Fridge on the idea of offering pet food. We know how much our community is suffering, and the idea of folks being separated from their pets due to a lack of resources is heartbreaking.
Drop off your donations at our shop on Porter Road and we will get them to the pantry in Madison!
Over the stormy week, the Knockin Roots family suffered a great loss with the sudden passing of the first pet I ever adopted.
My sweet Nero. We have been in love since the day I brought you home. Fourteen years, one month, nineteen days ago. You loved every creature as hard as they would let you. Not long ago, they told me that you had a heart murmur. Heart murmur, I thought? No. He has a heart that thunders. It can reach all the way to the core of you. You can lay him on your chest, and he will heal your bones and your heartaches. He has been mine in every lifetime, I have no doubt.
In his memory, we will continue to support the Nashville community in caring for all furry friends. ā¤ļø
TODAY! Itās time for our last regular Sunday market on the patio! Come through from 4-8pm to shop with local vendors and sip some tropical cocktails {or mocktails} on this beautiful day! See you there! āļø
