hello sports fans. we’re coming out of winter hibernation absolutely swinging. we got last minute added to this excellent show at the Orpheum this coming Thursday (5/14) and we’re stoked to see you, it’s been a while. if I seemed mentally unwell at our last show, i’m very excited to inform you: it’s worse now. it’s gonna be a hoot. jock it and rock it.
I’ve got something to talk about: the fact that this show is in TWO WEEKS from today. Oh yeah baby! We ain’t played Deviant in over a year so we’re joining some heavy hitters for a night of too loud and ear hurty. Furthermore, I searched all of the band names on this bill in the Epstein files and NONE of them were mentioned, so…that’s good! After this one we’ll be in a light hibernation to work on recording the full length™️ so let’s jock it and rock it.
I don’t need to hard sell you on this, the lineup speaks for itself. Black Tusk fucking rules, and Meatwound has always been one of the standout Bay Area bands to me ever since I went to the “Largo” album release show not long after I first moved to Florida. I was planning on moving into a remote cabin in the woods on January 23rd and writing my manifesto, but that’s gonna have to wait because now I have other plans that weekend and so do you.
In this house, we don’t say Merry Christmas. We say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRISTAN! @inkbeard.art Yes, sorry Jesus, your birthday has been one-upped by someone far more important to us: our drummer and best buddy. We couldn’t have kept this band going without him, and outside of the band, he’s been my rock through some very trying times. We love him. Give him all your Christmas presents. Give him the ones you got for your in-laws too. Fun fact: me and him met almost a decade ago when I filled in for one of his old bands for a rather long tour up the east coast. Not all the friendships from that era quite uh…stood the test of time, but me and T-Dawg quickly figured out we liked being trapped together in my 2001 Ford Explorer for 2 weeks and we’ve been friends ever since. Ancient video proof on the last slide. That video feels like a lifetime ago.

Welp, that’s a wrap on 2025 for us. What a strange year. Member changes under irregular circumstances, me and Santiago being the only OGs left standing, car problems/accidents, money problems, multiple marriages ending (suck it Black Keys, there’s a new Most Divorced Indie-Rock band on the block. Michelle Branch, if you’re reading this, and I know you are, DM me I would never betray you like The Black Keys freak ass drummer did), extreme depression and loneliness, and the usual global cruelty and suffering that, in America, you have to pretend isn’t happening and still clock into your shitty job and pretend everything is normal. But then you have the bright spots, few and far between, but profound and radiant enough to motivate us to keep slaving away in our little dungeon in Kenwood making our silly little songs. 2024 felt like a year where everything went wrong all the time, but 2025 felt like getting on the right track. The goals we had for this band in 2025, we didn’t quite meet them all, but all sorts of wonderful things happened that we didn’t expect. Tristan stepping in on drums last minute as a fill-in, then later as a permanent member because it was so damn fun. Bea stepping in to melt faces on guitar and bringing us back to being a 4-piece for the first time since 2023. Me finding my voice (literally) and starting to become somewhat more confident as the frontman of this band—a job I never really wanted and definitely bit off more than I could chew at the time. Playing with some of our favorite bands. Playing shows that were actually right for us to be on. And finally, and most importantly, meeting and connecting with super cool and kind, like-minded people, some of whom have become collaborators and co-conspirators. That’s my only endgame. We’re building a squad. Full length coming in 2026. It will tentatively be called Destroy What Doesn’t Serve You and it’s about leaving shit that wants to kill you in the fucking dust. We hope 2026 sees all your dreams come true. If you came to a show and talked to us, you already made our dreams come true. See ya next year. We love you.
