What happens when a woven textile becomes an animation? Step inside the “Video Craft” exhibition with artist Kate Nartker (@knart ). Kate shares the story behind “Green Screen”, 2025, a work that combines a 17-foot jacquard weaving with an animation created directly from its patterns. By scanning the woven textile and transforming it frame by frame, she reveals how weaving structures can behave like moving images. She was drawn to overshot weaving, a technique where repeating pattern units build the illusion of a continuous design. In the animation, these structures echo the glitches and scanning lines of VHS video, highlighting an unexpected technological link between looms and screens. Kate’s work sits at the intersection of animation and textile design, exploring how images, narratives, and materials can be dismantled and reassembled across media. ✹ Visit the exhibition to experience “Green Screen” and other works that blur the line between moving-image media and traditional crafts. 🔗 Link in bio to get your tickets and plan your visit!

Thank you all for joining the “Video Craft” Artist Talk and celebrating the opening day with us! Special thanks to the participating artists, Kelly Egan @kellymonster , Kira Dominguez Hultgren @kiradominguezhultgren , and Kate Nartker @knart , as well as the curators, Sarah Mills @sarahvmills , and Ariel Zaccheo @voodhu , who joined the panel. What happens when the moving image meets the handmade? In “Video Craft” film and digital technologies enter into dialogue with craft media such as ceramics, textiles, and glass, inviting viewers to reconsider time, materiality, process, and perception. Featuring 19 artists at different stages of their careers, the exhibition brings together early pioneers of video production and emerging digital natives. “Video Craft” reveals an unexpected partnership between the deeply embodied practices of craft and the ephemeral nature of the screen. Learn more about “Video Craft”, now on view through August 16 at MCD, and get your tickets now through the link in bio! [Image Description: Photo carousel featuring participating artists, curators, and attendees from the “Video Craft” Artist Talk.]
