In the groove-heavy Muzwile, Mathias Muzaza the lead vocalist @mokoomba moved effortlessly across registers — at one point evoking the operatic tenor of Luciano Pavarotti, at another slipping into soprano territory. His voice carries a rare elasticity, capable of traversing tenor, bass, baritone and beyond without strain. One moment he soared; the next, he dropped into a low, resonant register that grounded the room. Whether tender, celebratory or rhythmically rapid as in Njoka from Rising Tide (2012), his delivery remained assured. Midway through the set, this theatrical instinct came alive during the Mabemba Medley, where he voiced a dialogue between a child, mother and father with striking clarity — shifting tone, texture and character to turn the stage into a brief, compelling drama. #publicityCENTRE

SOFAR ARTISTS Afro-pop and traditional fusion artist @mbeuzw performed solo @sofarsoundsharare recently. His presence was magnetic yet grounded. A pure Oliver Mtukudzi lineage, the Mhondi Yenguva hit maker strummed his guitar and played some of his most popular songs including Mavanga, Mumwe wangu, Ndoringa imi, Manera and the groovy Mhondi yenguva. 📸 @gamu360

A major milestone in inclusive education was achieved in Chitungwiza earlier this month with the official opening of Takunda Deaf Trust School in Nyatsime, Ward 12. The school, which caters for children who are hard of hearing, was officially opened on April 9, marking the culmination of nearly a decade of dedication by its founder, Ronika Tandi — a Zimbabwean sculptor and educator. key partner in the school’s development has been the @dsa.charity.zw led by its president, @_mirjanagrujic_ the association equipped four classrooms with essential furniture, including desks, chairs, writing boards, and lockers. “Today is more than just opening a school building,” said Grujic. “It is about opening doors to opportunity, creativity, inclusion, and empowerment. “Every child has great potential that must be nurtured, regardless of their circumstances.” @thestandard @kmcommunications

Stage director Tsungirirai Chenjerayi does well to paint a vivid picture of the scenes. While directing the characters, she constantly reads news briefs from the period, giving the play historical context by referring to different moments that impacted American history. One such moment is when then American president George W. Bush proposed and signed into law a $700 billion bailout package aimed at averting a total economic collapse during the 2008 financial crisis. What makes the play relatable to Zimbabwe is that during the same period, the country was also facing a severe economic meltdown characterized by skyrocketing inflation rates and political crisis. The play was born out of Nottage’s personal experience with a friend, which ultimately led her to set out to figure out how poverty and economic stagnation were shifting the American narrative. In 2011, while researching, she came across the city of Reading, Pennsylvania, where she then spent two and a half years researching. #publicityCENTRE @zimbabweindependent

In a notable development underscoring the event’s pan-African reach, two distinguished Zimbabwean figures have been confirmed among the speaker roster: Walter Wanyanya, director of the acclaimed Jacaranda Festival, and Usher Nyambi, the founder of Samora Central, who also serves as the head of media and communications for ALEC. Over three days, the conference programme will tackle the industry’s most pressing operational challenges. Attendees can expect keynote conversations, panel sessions, a dedicated Women in Live Arts (WILA) Brunch, and closed-door roundtables addressing artist mobility, visa access, touring logistics, infrastructure gaps, and access to financing. #publicityBUREAU @newsdayzim @kmcommunications
