The thing about alpine starts is that they're usually freezing. Your tent is wet and you have to pack it up, and now your hands are freezing. Every article of the very few clothing items you have, are all on your body. It's just you and your headlamp, and maybe whoever you're with, (In this case @thediscoverywalk@travelling_renae ) trudging through. Your hands are cold, you can see your breath, but you can't really see how much progress you've made or where you are. And just when you feel like it might never warm up, the sun starts to peak out. The sky starts to lighten. Little by little. Eventually it drenches the mountain and you, warming you from the inside out. And you feel silly for ever questioning the truth that the cold never lasts and that the sun always rises.
We were nearing the highest point of the Colorado Trail on this morning, and it was absolute magic. The alpine start was worth it. Somehow, the cold and darkness almost always are.

6 months ago, we welcomed our guests aboard Manhattan II for our wedding welcome party, graciously hosted by Eric's parents. It was such a dream to get to share NYC with our guests from one of our most beloved spots - on the water with Lady Liberty at golden hour. Once the sun went down, seeing the twin tower lights from the Hudson was pretty unforgettable. Our friends at @classicharborline made the evening so perfect and spectacular, and all of the fun planning and details of flowers, welcome bags, and personalized touches from our parents and families were the cherry on top.
January. Travels, staying in with the cats, needlepointing, cats doing cute things, teaching, more staying home and being cozy, studenting, & the occasional leaving of our apartment and then coming back to cats doing cute things
Horizontal people & details ✨
Eric and I had initially planned to go to City Hall just us in the morning, and then have a dinner party afterwards. Luckily, our parents talked us out of it. It would've been nice, but not nearly as fun as this! We still made it our own. I did my hair and makeup in the morning and we ordered room service while we got ready for our quiet ceremony in the heart of the West Village. Afterwards, we walked to brunch with our immediate family, followed by a shower, a nap, and getting ready calmly. We loved seeing our guests enjoy brunches, catch up with friends, go on tours, and experience the city they traveled to during the break between events. Our reception was at one of our favourite restaurants in the city, with the kindest, most competent and fun team, and best food & drinks @andsonnyc . Music played from @westfourthtrio who play in Washington Square Park all the time and I DMed on Instagram. Our guests got portraits done by @katandbrush . The whole thing felt so positively us and New York. Our coordinator and day-of team were incredible. I ordered a 200 roses from 1-800 bulk flowers lol and after keeping them in our hotel bathtub, dear friends arrived early to set them up and make them look phenomenal. Once dinner finished and the DJ took over, we had the time of our lives dancing, scream singing, and eating french fries. What a gift. I wish I could do it all over again!
