Working with Crossroads over the years has been a privilege, and we are especially proud of this latest set of outdoor spaces and pocket parks because of the positive impact on the neighborhood we work in every day.
We designed the courtyard and improvements at the entrance specifically to provide comfort and dignity - with benches, water, a power station, and importantly, screening from the roadways, and concrete planters that both offer greenery and protection from traffic.
The custom fencing is meant to evoke the various paths people take through life - and the literal crossroads people come to in their journey through this place.
These improvements are important because they signal to passerby that the people who are using these spaces belong here - they are not loitering. That ‘sanctioning’ of space is critical to turning around the perception of Broad Street - Reimagining it, as it were - and showing Crossroads’ clients the respect they deserve.

On Friday, we celebrated the opening of the Summer Street Apartments, the largest permanent supportive housing development in New England.
For nearly 200 formerly homeless adults, these 176 one-bedroom, net-zero apartments represent dignity, stability, and a true place to call home.
This transformative project shows what’s possible when government, business, and community partners unite behind one powerful truth: housing is the only solution to homelessness.
We are profoundly grateful to our federal, state, and local partners and to the hundreds of professionals who brought this vision to life. Together, we are reshaping Rhode Island’s housing landscape.
Today’s ribbon tying was more than symbolic, it’s a promise to keep building a Rhode Island where everyone has a safe, affordable home.
As we celebrate the grand opening of Summer Street Supportive Housing, we’d like to pause and express our deepest gratitude to every set of hands that brought this incredible project to life. THANK YOU!

Our Design/Build Interns went on a field trip to KITE Architects earlier this week, where they got a behind-the-scenes look at real-world design, sustainable innovation, and what it takes to shape the spaces we live in! Our students also received a mini-demo on proper model-making techniques, which will be incredibly helpful as they begin prototyping their service project ideas for their upcoming client design reviews.
