A beautiful weekend in the woods with our family. Our annual family camping trip was where the first dreams of kitchen Unnecessary began. Sitting around the campfire, eating delicious food and dreaming up all the adventures we could have. Still dreaming. Still adventuring.

We’ve got a shiny new podcast up today! @fossman8 is the youngest hunter in the world to have killed all four species of North American sheep with a bow. He’s also an incredibly kind, warm and lovely human. If hunting gives you pause, as it once (and sometimes still can) did for me, I highly encourage you to listen to Adam share his heart behind it. Get curious, ask questions and listen.

A few morels turned into a feast of smoked steaks over a spring greens pesto with a buttery morel and pea sauce. On the side coal roasted potatoes served with radish and turnip kimchi. A feast from forest and field. #eatoutside #cookoutside #wildfood #foragefeast #eatwild #wildfoodlove #inseason

Found a few beauties in the woods this weekend but it was pretty sparse out there. For those of you who are looking how has the morel season been for you? My mushroom FOMO goes off the charts when I see others with baskets full of morels. Ha! But these few precious mushrooms made a lovely pea, shallot butter sauce to top smoked tenderloin and asparagus cooked right on the coals. #springforaging #morel #morelmadness #mushrooms #pnwforage #getoutside #mushroom #morels

Spent a beautiful weekend on the Yakima river. When I first started fishing I never understood the purpose of catch and release. I mean I got it from the perspective of conservation but if you’re not going to eat the fish I wondered what the point was. But now I get it. I just love to fish. I love stepping into the natural process. I wrote recently in my journal after a day of fishing : “It’s still with me. That memory of wading into icy water. Attempting to finesse my swing and fly into something that mimics nature. I think that is the call of fly fishing. Stepping into the natural process, attempting to mirror a divinely created bug so that I too am a part of the process. It feels both holy and sinister. Divine and deceptive. Defined by both greed and gratitude.” There’s also the beauty of simply spending a day on the river and fishing brings me there. So I fish and am overwhelmed with gratitude for these beautiful beings that keep calling me to the river. #womenwhofish #womenonthefly #fishingthoughts #flyfishing #yakimariver #redsflyfishing #rainbow #flyfishingmom #flyfishing

Gifts from the sea. What’s your favorite spot prawn recipe? I tried salt baking for the first time thanks to the tip from @the_gastrognome . Delicious! Tender, sweet - highlighting the best of what spot prawns give us. #foraging #pnwadventures #spotprawns #wildfood #eatwild #getoutside #giftsfromtheearth

A little rain plus a little sunshine and *pop* come the oysters! Found a beautiful flush in a local Seattle park. They were a bit water logged so they ended up in the dehydrator to make my favorite camp cooking seasoning and will save to flavor stocks, sauces and soups. What’s your favorite way to enjoy an oyster mushroom? #foraging #springfood #inseason #springeats #pnwforaging #womenwhoforage #eatwild #wildfoodlove #mushroom

Starting to get reeeeeeal excited about getting those spring mushrooms. Anyone in the PNW had luck yet this year? We’ve joined a few foraging groups on Facebook and am trying not to be so envious of all the morels people are finding! #fungifever #morelmadness #pnwforaging #oystermushrooms #getoutside #eatwild #pnwwomen #womenwhoforage #eatoutside
