I didn’t realize how much my health was changing while it was happening.
While I was living abroad in Bali, I was still working and doing my best to live normally — even as my body was struggling. The changes were gradual, not dramatic, which made them easy to minimize.
I kept telling myself I was just tired, stressed, or pushing too hard. I adjusted around symptoms instead of stopping to ask why they were there. Looking back, I can see how often I talked myself out of listening to what my body was trying to tell me.
Over time, things like debilitating fatigue, full body pain, brain fog, neurological symptoms, severe nerve pain and ongoing stomach issues became part of daily life. Eventually, those symptoms were connected to several underlying conditions — including epilepsy, Lyme disease, Babesia, parasitic liver flukes, and thyroid dysfunction.
None of this happened all at once, and none of it was obvious from the outside.
I’m sharing this to give context, not to worry anyone. I’m getting the care I need now, and I’m learning how to listen earlier and more gently. If there’s anything I hope this communicates, it’s that you don’t have to wait until things are severe to take your health seriously!
