Design Review Day — aka “Talk About Your Feelings, But Make It Wood”
As the week wrapped up in Laura Kishimoto’s bent lamination class at the Austin School of Furniture, everyone gathered for a final design critique. Maria shared her work, her process, and the controlled chaos it took to bend reality (and veneer) into something sculptural.
It was equal parts inspiring, nerve-wracking, and satisfying — the perfect end to a week of creativity, clamp-induced hand cramps, and serious design brain.
Proud of how far this project came in just a few days. And yes, we’re already plotting what to bend next.

Pro tip: always double-check for hidden hardware before you saw through your carefully constructed form. Or don’t — if you like living on the edge.

Bent Lamination: Maria’s Turn to Shine
After a forest of clamps and more glue than we care to admit, Maria’s bent lamination is finally free! Watching her pull the piece out of the form and hold that perfect curve up to the camera… it’s a proud moment.
This was during Laura Kishimoto’s bent lamination class at the Austin School of Furniture — where we learned that unclamping might be even more satisfying than the glue-up itself.
The best part? Another set of veneers went straight into the form right after hers. It’s a full-on curve factory around here.
