Humans can be museums too, filled with history they can no longer touch.
And maybe that’s what graduation feels like.
Every version of me is still here: the girl who struggled silently, the girl who carried pain like it was permanent, the girl who survived things she never spoke about out loud. But none of those versions define me anymore — they built me.
This moment is bigger than a cap and gown. It’s proof that healing is possible. That growth is real. That even after the hardest seasons, you can still become something beautiful.
I used to think my past would always have power over me. Now I see it as a gallery of lessons — memories I can honor without living inside of.
Today, I stand as someone my younger self would be proud of. Softer. Wiser. Stronger. A masterpiece created from every chapter I survived. Thank you God!

This is Criminal Law 100. Or as I prefer to call it, ‘How to get away with murder’📝
The love I have for criminal justice started when I was just a little girl. I always knew I wanted to be a part of the system—specifically a criminal defense attorney. I wanted to stand in the gap for people who couldn’t stand up for themselves, to make sure justice is truly served, and to understand the truth behind every case, not just what is on the surface.
As a correctional officer, one of my favorite lines has been “give them what they got coming.” But my understanding of that has grown. To me, it means accountability and justice—not stripping away someone’s humanity because of their crime. A person should never receive less than basic dignity, even while being held accountable for their actions. Justice is not just punishment—it’s balance, fairness, and seeing the full picture of a person’s story.
I’ve learned that criminal justice is much deeper than what people assume. It’s not just about what someone did, but also about how they got there. A person’s upbringing, trauma, environment, and life experiences can all shape the path they end up on. This doesn’t excuse wrongdoing, but it does help explain the criminal mind in a more complete way. Criminology research has consistently shown that adverse childhood experiences are strongly linked to higher rates of criminal behavior later in life, something I’ve seen reflected in this field.
Being a correctional officer while earning my Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice has given me a perspective I will carry forever. It has shown me that people are complex, and that the system works best when it balances accountability with humanity.
Now, as I graduate, I move forward with even more purpose—ready to continue growing, challenge my understanding, and work toward justice that is both firm and fair.
