Tumhare uthne pe uthna, tumhare sone pe sona,
Tumhare kuchh na kehne par, andhera hona.
Tumhara pyaar ko gusse ke tadke se chhokna,
“I don’t care” bol ke sau baar tokna.
Tumhara bachpan ko chupke se chaalis paar karvana,
Space ki maang rakhna aur fir taktaki lagana.
Tumhari chai mein kitni patti, kitni cheeni, kitni adrak, kitni kaali mirch,
Ek cup ka matlab ek kabhi nahi.
Tumhara kisse kharch karne se pehle daayein baayein dekhna,
Fir chaar logo ki mehfil mein dheemi aanch pe sekna.
Tumhare ghanton tak baaton ke sweater banana,
Aur meri ghabrahaton ko garmahatein pehnana.
Seekha bohat in gyaarah saalon mein bas ik baat ke siwaye,
Bin tumhari surat ke ik din kaise bitayein.

Happy Fortieth or Forty-forth or Fourth.
It is really, incredibly hard to tell how old you are! Your hungry-to-eat-the-floor feet tell me you are four. The laugh stuck in your lungs is a careless leash-less dog from hell, every time it gets out, I am sure, you are two not a day more. Your stubborn appetite to know everything under the sun tells me you are twelve but the nose that screams I know everything under the sun tells me you are at least sixteen. You have the smile of a thirteen-month-old. And the tongue that can be anywhere from a twenty-year-old to a sixty-year-old depending on who’s asking.
It’s difficult to tell how old you are.
But something tells me,
It will get more difficult the older you are.

Back in the day, advertising was a private club.
That opened its doors to a select few MICAns or Stephanians or IIMCians or work-for-free-for-six-months-and-we-will-see-ians.
Not-from-advertising nobodies could try their luck at nobody agencies, work their butts off, build a solid body of work and pray that someday someone at a JWT or Ogilvy will find it average enough to hire you as a trainee.
Because their advertising was academically ahead of your advertising.
You could either play catchup till kingdom come or you could join the one school that would happily take a second-hand engineer, first-hand fluke, both hands hungry student like yourself:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠.
You wrote brochures during the day and rewrote ‘Lemon’ at night.
You learnt that two is greater than one because it tries harder.
You identified your two fucks to give.
You realized the gravitational pull of provocation.
You discovered the religion of emotion.
You found your god.
And you promised him
To do this or die.
DDB remains or not.
The Bernbach School of Advertising can never die.
