Mariel Bildsten's path through Jazz points to personal connections with classic albums. Are any of these albums on your list of five albums that made you fall in love with Jazz music?
๐ก J.J. Johnson โ The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson, Volume 1 & Volume 2
"My first love. I listened to these every day when I was 13 from a burned CD my trombone teacher made for me."
๐ก Mary Lou Williams - Zodiac Suite
"Sophisticated, complex, and beautiful! Each piece is a musical portrait, composed by Williams as a dedication to fellow musicians."
๐ก Duke Pearson - Prairie Dog
"This album is cinematic, cohesive, patient, and such a vibe."
๐ก Abbey Lincoln - Itโs Magic
"Such a gorgeous album. Lincoln's voice and storytelling are so clear and honest; she soars over the band. I love Benny Golson's arrangements on this."
๐ก Ahmad Jamal - Ahmad Jamal's Alhambra (Live)
"This trio is perfect!"
"Good music is at the center of all GOOD TIMES!"

Jiggs Whigham has had a legendary career with King trombones. For Jazz Appreciation Month, we've asked him about the influences on his performance and composing career!
๐ก Urbie Green
โUrbie was one of my heroes - and still is. His magnificent sound and style (similar to Perry Como and other great singers) introduced a new concept in trombone playing! Strangely enough, his concept and superb playing have been sorely underrated by some."
๐ก J.J. Johnson
โOf course, J.J. Johnson. Again, his concept and โhonestโ sound helped form my own musical conception.โ
๐ก Tommy Dorsey
โTommy Dorsey was one of the greats. Impeccable phrasing and responsible for influencing generations of great trombonists - and big bands.โ
๐ก Bรฉla Bartรณk - Igor Stravinsky - Sergei Prokofiev
โThe music of Bartรณk, Stravinsky, Prokofiev... from his First Symphony, through the popular โPeter and the Wolfโ and the Third Piano Concertoโฆall wonderful!!!โ
๐ก Johann Sebastian Bach
โANYTHING composed by J.S. Bach. To date, the very greatest of them all! Hard to think that Bach fell out of favor the last twenty years of his life!?!?!? Thankfully rediscovered by another great - Mendelssohn.โ
Have instruments. Will travel.
When you march with Conn and King, your sound travels. Literally. The Ohio State University Marching Band took to the streets of Ireland last week, bringing that unmistakable low brass sound across the Atlantic. ๐ฎ๐ช
Congratulations to @tbdbitl on the incredible performances abroad!

Before most industries had women in executive leadership, King did.
In 1941, Edna White became President of the H.N. White Company, the first female executive in the history of the band instrument industry. With the world at war and the future uncertain, she held firm to one belief: offer superior quality, second to none.
Four years later, her daughter Kay joined her as Vice President. Together, they led King through one of the most challenging moments in American history and emerged stronger.
King is iconic by decree. And part of that crown belongs to them.

Since 1893, King has been in the hands of the greatest bands on earth. This #MarchForth, we celebrate the legends who carry that tradition forward.
