Over the summer I was asked by @yourmomsberlin to remix a track for @ahmedeidmusic to be included in a compilation that directly benefits and provides funding for a Palestinian music studio. I sat with his song for a few days trying to find the voice that I wanted to magnify within it. As many of you know, @crook_music has been my theatrical, performance focused project for many years alongside @burakyerebakan but for this song I felt that the sonic landscape that I create with @kingboy.la would allow me to really sit with this beautiful song in a different way. Invoking the sounds that have surrounded the Palestinian people for decades was important to me in that moment, emulating and stretching them out in order to reimagine them; removing their hostile intonation while maintaining the effects they have on one’s heart was important. For the end I imagined a victory for all Palestinian people, the moment in which the walls were destroyed and the checkpoints, felled rubble. I imagined their land and their trees returned and their soil rich and fertile. Thank you for the opportunity to recreate this incredible song. The link to the compilation is in my bio. Vol. II is nearly finished. This is a snippet from a track created alongside Colton Silvers and @ibelieveinsound . As this song has matured it’s begun to feel less like an answer to some collective memory and more like the questions that result. The awkward, fumbling journey through one’s fledgling identity can submerge us, causing us to feel overwhelmed. It can feel like we don’t know which was is up or out. In a world that answers for us this feeling never fully dissolves. If anything, we just become more adept at submitting to the tidal flow. Our survival depends on it.
