Back in February I joined forces with fellow saxophonist Simon Spillett to present 'Unification' in collaboration with @highworthjazzfestival We were all intrigued to find out what would happen bringing together two entirely different musical and creative styles for this exciting yet unlikely pairing. It's fair to say that the whole project which also included some studio recordings, was very well received indeed and the live gig was a huge success. At one point during the performance we embarked on a completely unrehearsed moment of spontaneity - two saxophones taking inspiration from each other and creating a totally unexpected and unique moment in music. Here's the 3 and a half minute 'off-piste' creation which captures Simon humorously expressing: "This could go on for some time!" It does lead to a fabulously funky conclusion so it's worth seeing it through to the end. We first met @kimcyphersax and her incredible band at the New Year’s Eve Ball at the @thepumproomrestaurant and from the very first song, we were completely drawn in. The music was engaging, uplifting, and full of such positive energy that moving to it just felt effortless. ✨ At some point during the evening, Kim spotted us and casually said, “Would you like to join me for a jazz festival?” We laughed it off as one of those lovely in-the-moment comments… but then, only hours later, she contacted us properly and asked us to be part of her gig. And before we knew it, we were at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival @cheltfestivals 🎷🎶 with a special spotlight dedicated to us, dancing as part of one of the festival’s closing acts. Honestly, it still feels like a dream. 💖🧿 We also had the absolute privilege of getting a sneak peek into Kim’s newly released music, an incredible lineup of songs that made the whole experience feel even more special. Kim’s energy is absolutely infectious, and the same goes for the rest of the band and her extended team. We’ve loved every second of being part of this experience. And to everyone who came up to speak to us, share kind words, and give such beautiful compliments, thank you. Like many creative folk / musicians, I am an extremely sensitive soul. I have genuine empathy for the way my music makes people feel and the quality of music and performance I deliver.
