Michael aka Turbo on Downham Road yesterday.
If you frequent Kingsland Road or De Beauvoir I’d be surprised if you’ve never seen him as he’s part of the furniture, though you might not have noticed him.
Being from London I’m not new to seeing homelessness or people sleeping rough. What was surprising to me in Mexico wasn’t just the volume but how normal it is for people to be fast asleep in the middle of pavements whilst the hustle and bustle of the busy streets continues on around them. This really reminded me of a Potter Payper lyric… “truth I never made my bed, drop where I lay my head” which is a stark difference to London where rough sleepers usually opt for doorways, alley ways and places more sheltered.
