missing my ancestral land
and
the way the wind rustles the tree
the smell of peeled birch bark
four wheeler engines rumbling
lunch at cafe manoonmin that still reminded me of home cooking
i miss the faces of my elders
and running into a cousin every which way
for it had been too many years of me being away
i still laugh thinking about how chins pointed to say “eh”
I long to hear the joy in my little cousins as they ask a million questions about me
kin but a stranger to them
they embraced me anyway
i miss the way the stars lit up the sky
twinkling and dancing with the dark
and the smoke that filled the air from burning wood
oh to see the land stretch so far
to find memories in each corner
mole lake, gizaagi’in
I bought a canvas with artwork on it for $3 at Good Will then painted it with gesso. I sat on what I wanted to do with it for a while but with the Aquarius full moon energy I got to playing with tape to make Anishinaabe inspired geometric shapes. More gesso, acrylic paint, and a lot of tape later and here we are. I feel like myself again. And I’m really happy with how this turned out.
things I enjoy—
watching the sun rise
murals
a table full of hors d’oeuvres
card games
wine / spirit displays
interesting light fixtures
