Year 7s have taken part in a Robotics Workshop, a highly practical, hands-on session where pupils use programmable robots (Sphero) to complete a series of coding and problem-solving challenges - similar to how real space missions send step-by-step commands to robotic explorers. Pupils worked in teams, developed their computational thinking, and built confidence through trial, error, and iteration. The response from pupils has been excellent - lots of excitement, strong engagement, and brilliant teamwork as they learn to programme and refine their robots’ movements. Sessions were delivered by James Claxton from Kielder Observatory. @kielderobservatory #stemlearning

Huge thanks to @kielderobservatory for delivering a fantastic Robotics Workshop today! šŸ¤–āœØ The workshop was a highly practical, hands-on session where pupils used programmable Sphero robots to complete a series of coding and problem-solving challenges — just like the step-by-step commands used in real space missions to control robotic explorers. šŸš€ Working in teams, our pupils developed their computational thinking skills, built confidence through trial and error, and showed excellent teamwork. #STEM #Robotics #Coding #Teamwork #science

You might remember we asked for your feedback earlier this year about our events at Twice Brewed Inn. Hundreds of you took the time to share your thoughts, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed. šŸ’œ Alongside the survey, we also ran a competition to win two tickets to an event with us at either Twice Brewed Inn or Kielder Observatory. We have now drawn our winner… šŸ‘€ Check your emails!

ā˜• ASTRO AM: Rise, Shine & Explore šŸ„ž šŸ›ø The Pentagon Just Released More UFO Files The US Pentagon has begun releasing a new batch of previously unseen files linked to UFOs... now officially referred to as UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena). And yes, the internet immediately became a bit obsessed. The release includes photographs, military reports, videos, NASA transcripts and decades-old documents covering strange sightings reported by pilots, astronauts and military personnel. Among them is an Apollo-era image showing mysterious lights in triangular formation, alongside reports of glowing or football-shaped objects spotted in the sky, like the one seen in the image taken near Japan in 2024. Before the X-Files theme starts playing… officials say there’s still no confirmed evidence of extra-terrestrial life. Most sightings likely have ordinary explanations, while others simply remain unresolved due to limited data. But that uncertainty is exactly why people remain fascinated. Interest in extra-terrestrial life is still growing strong, with films like Project Hail Mary and Disclosure Day hitting the box office this year. Do you believe there’s intelligent life elsewhere in the universe? And if there is… do you think we’ve already caught glimpses of it? šŸ‘€ #Astronomy #AstroAM #UFO #UAP
