New to Kid Power? Start here ⭐ Kid Power partners with youth across the DC area to build academic strength, confidence, and leadership skills that last beyond the classroom. We work with students in grades 2 through 12 across all eight wards of DC and Montgomery County through after school programs, high impact tutoring, and mentoring experiences that provide holistic support. Our approach is simple. We create consistent, supportive spaces where young people can strengthen their skills, grow their voice, and step into leadership in their schools and communities. If you are a parent, educator, volunteer, or community partner looking to learn more, this post is your introduction. Save this as a resource. Share it with someone who cares about youth in DC. 💚 Happy National Mental Health Awareness Month! We believe that taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body, and that starts when you're young. Together, let’s create spaces where young people feel safe to say "I'm not okay" and know that's perfectly okay. Through social-emotional learning, we encourage kids to name what they feel, understand why they feel it, and know that every emotion they experience is valid. Because when we normalize talking about our feelings early, we build a generation that isn't afraid to ask for help, show up for others, and take care of their whole selves. Today, we invite you to check in with yourself and with the young people in your life. A simple "how are you really doing?" can mean everything. 🌱 . . . #NationalMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthAwareness #KidPowerDC #SocialEmotionalLearning #SEL #YouAreNotAlone #KidsmentalHealth #EmpoweringYouth #YouthDevelopment

"I learned that I can calm down and take breaths, probably count up to 1,000, when I'm very, very, very angry." 🌬️ Today, on World Mental Health Day, we're reminded that caring for our minds starts early. Talking about our feelings, really talking about them, is something so many of us weren't taught to do. But at Kid Power, our students are rewriting that story every single day. To practice mental wellness, our students created snow globes to visualize our minds when stress and frustration take over (cue the shaking). On the hard days, sometimes the only thing we can do is pause... and let the snow settle. 🌨️ And just like that, the mind clears. Your spark shines through. You can see things more clearly again. Mental health is not just a conversation for one day. It is a practice. And when we give young people the tools to understand and express their feelings, we don't just help them in the moment. We shape who they become. 💬 What helps you let the snow settle? . . . #SEL #MindfulKids #EmotionalWellness #YouthDevelopment #DCProgramming #KidPowerDC

Showing up starts with feeling supported. 💛 According to a new report from the DC Policy Center, 82% of students who face attendance challenges one year are likely to face them again the next. The window to make a difference is now. That's where youth programming comes in! 🌟 High-impact tutoring, mentorship, and after-school programs meet students where they are, building the connections, consistency, and safe spaces young people need to show up as their full selves every day. 💪 When students feel seen, valued, and supported, they don't just attend. They thrive. . . . #FactualFridays #KidPowerDC #DCSchools #StudentSuccess
