Gradually counting down to my birthday
Born in the 80’s
Igbo culture
The days of Nchor and black and white tv 📺
The days of folklore and grandmother’s scent
The days of kinky hair, parted with carved combs and plaited with black thread.
The days of innocence, where our doors were left unlocked and children roamed the streets in playful dance.
I was born in the days of innocence, on a Tuesday on a hot afternoon, under a clear grey sky. The world paused briefly as if in welcome to my arrival. The women sang as soon as my mother stepped into our home with me cradled in her arms and swaddled with shawl and soft Ankara fabric. There was laughter, dance and the scent of baby powder.
I grew …. from a tiny bawling baby , a gawky teenager and then … a full woman!
I have spent a good 40 years in Growing. 40 years ! 40 long years of laughter, growth, sadness, pain, joy , lessons ....
