After securing the Serie B title with a 2-0 victory over Palermo on Friday night, Venezia embarked on one of the best traditions in world soccer.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the squad and staff, flanked by a fleet of fans, sailed down Venice’s Grand Canal, lined by thousands, and made their way to Piazza San Marco to lift the trophy. Ryan Hunn was there to capture it all for Kickback Soccer.
Next season, some of Italy’s biggest clubs will once again make their way through the lagoon to the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. It may be the last time many do so, as Venezia will soon leave the second eldest football stadium in Italy that they call home, to move to their new ground on the mainland the following season.
