There are certain jobs that stay with you long after the crane is packed up, the site is cleared, and the day is done. This was one of those moments. Recently, we had the privilege of being part of the installation of a stunning new public art piece, located at 6075 Wilson Ave in Burnaby. Created through the incredible team @carvelcreative the sculpture is both visually striking and deeply meaningful; a large-scale arm holding up a phone, frozen in the familiar act of taking a selfie. It’s modern, bold, and quietly reflective all at once. As a crane company, we mainly work behind the scenes. Our role is technical, careful, and highly coordinated. There are projects that come along where our work intersects with something bigger than construction schedules and logistics, and public art is one of those instances. Thank you to everyone involved in making this installation possible, seeing it come together was super special and a perfect reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful projects are the ones that leave a lasting cultural footprint. For those who are familiar with our blog, please feel free to head there and read our last piece about ‘Reflection’ by @khankills

Khan Lee’s site-specific installation piece “Mono (Restoration)” is now on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery as part of the exhibition “Black and White and Everything In Between: A Monochrome Journey”. Situated in the Forecourt of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Lee’s installation draws attention to the entrance, a space that has hosted over 100 exhibitions in the last 41 years since the gallery relocated in 1983. Lee meticulously sanded through layers of paint, unveiling a series of circles that reveal blended colors representing each passing year. His diligent efforts expose the accumulated exhibition designs spanning four decades, offering an archival testament to the labor involved in continuously transforming the space. In his artistic practice, Lee engages with performance, media, sculpture, and drawing, exploring forms and processes to articulate the inherent relationships between material and immaterial content. For more information of Khan Lee and his work, please contact the gallery [email protected].
