What If... A future Fremantle embraces the Bilya / Swan River?
KHA @kha.studios with @uwa_design Lecturer in Landscape Architecture Daniel Jan Martin @danieljanmartin and Noongar Elder Sandra Harben, unveiled their vision for Victoria Quay and a future Bilya edge as part of @cityoffremantle What If… exhibition at @ps.artspace last week.
Victoria Quay’s position between river and city presents a unique opportunity for urban regeneration underpinned by landscape. The vision explores the possibilities for a transformative renewal alongside a rewilded and soft river edge, combining habitat and active landscape spaces. Some key moves include:
• Restoring an ecological edge to Victoria Quay.
• Relocating the rail line underground to allow genuine connections between Fremantle and the water.
• Moving the cruise ship terminal west to connect better in with the historical city centre.
• Repurposing the existing terminal building as a public building.
Approximately 60% of the 450,000m2 overall potential development site is proposed to be dedicated to public open space. While providing significant development potential of more than 2,500 apartments.

Celebrating Excellence: We are pleased to share that Kerry Hill has been posthumously honored with the prestigious Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) 2023 Gold Medal.

Described by the jury as "hands-on," "exacting," and "a perfectionist," Kerry was a man of few words who allowed his projects to speak eloquently for themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The jury commended him not only for his remarkable professional qualities but also for his generous sharing of knowledge and expertise with emerging architects. Kerry's contributions extended beyond his own projects, encompassing lectures, mentoring, participation in judging panels, and teaching at various architectural schools.

In this moment of reflection, we also posthumously honor Raymond Woo of Raymond Woo and Associates Architects, who shares this year's joint award.
