KFP Awareness has been instrumental in a new municipal project exploring and realising safer space potentials in Copenhagen culture houses.
Late last year, KFP Awareness facilitated a one-day workshop with representatives from five culture houses in Copenhagen. Three of the culture houses are part of a municipal pilot project and have since participated in follow-up sparring sessions with KFP Awareness, focusing on developing and embedding concrete safer space practices.
Insights from the project are intended to inform broader and more deeply embedded municipal safer space and awareness efforts. Looking forward!
Hey cuties, c*nts and queers - you’re all cordially invited to the first KFP Hangout of 2026!

We changed our name and articles of association and it’s now possible for anyone who loves sweaty dancefloors, warehouse raves, local politics and fighting for the right to party the way we want to, to join the association. Say hi to “Klubkulturens Frie Platform”.

In light of Copenhagen’s new Mayor for Culture, Leisure and Citizen Services, Christopher Røhl, proposing to establish 15 free-zones [frizoner] in the city, Berlingske interviewed stakeholders including Alexander from KFP, who – together with Anders from KFP – has spent years advocating for such zones.
Translation of excerpt:
»One of the biggest challenges in the capital is that nightlife and club culture are rarely considered in urban planning when new districts are developed. This inevitably leads to clashes between residents and organisers as their night-time activities evolve,« says Alexander Rastén Rydberg.
As a member of Copenhagen’s Nightlife Committee, he asked the Technical and Environmental Administration last year to outline the technical and bureaucratic barriers new actors face when trying to open clubs. He learned that it can be extremely difficult to have club activities approved in buildings previously used for other purposes.
»With the administration, for example, starting a cultural or concert venue in a former industrial building can be so complicated that many actors simply give up before they reach the finish line – or are stopped before they even get started. The free-zones can help support the culture-driven nightlife and define what can happen where, so fewer people are unnecessarily disturbed,« says Alexander Rastén Rydberg.

FOR A DIVERSE CLUB CULTURE THAT SUPPORTS A SAFER, MORE INCLUSIVE NIGHTLIFE
• Works to promote the recognition and communication of the social, economic, and cultural value of club culture
• Strives to ensure better financial conditions and access to both temporary and permanent venues
• Produces, shares, and deepens knowledge about safer spaces and practices that support an inclusive nightlife
• Paves the way for new generations and movements within club culture
Since being shaped collectively in early 2025, this mission statement and these four core commitments have been the foundation for our organisational restructuring and continue to orient our cultural-political work.
Tuesday, KFP was invited to join a panel on anti-discrimination in Copenhagen nightlife as part of the ongoing city-led project Charter for a Nightlife without Discrimination.
So far, the initiative has mainly focused on intentions and communication, and KFP are hopeful at the prospect that in 2026 the focus will shift toward concrete handling and prevention of discrimination and boundary-crossing conduct.
On the panel, Adam from KFP joined moderator Frederikke Strøbech Fürst (Operate), Danielle Karen Schultz (RUST, Motopol) and Kirstine Munk (Dorsia). From front row Denise (KFP, Den Anden Side) shared some valuable insights about how exhausting it can be to be at the forefront of safety and anti-discrimination efforts – and made a strong case for collective action.
One of Adam’s main points during the conversation was that procedures and competencies are important, but that freeing up time and capacity within the nightlife sector is also necessary if we want to enable actual care, preventive intervention, and the handling of complex situations. It is not only a question of resources, but also of prioritisation and breaking with a culture that celebrates busyness and endless time optimisation.
KFP now stands for Klubkulturens Frie Platform.
What began as an association of event and club promoters with shared values has grown into a cultural-political nightlife organisation with a shared mission – and it’s time for our name to reflect this development.

Today the international club exchange with Berlin's Clubcommission begins. KFP is super exited to welcome members of a fellow organisation, exchange knowledge and experiences, and strengthen our collaborations across borders. Last year KFP and the Nightlife Committee of Copenhagen went on a similar exchange to Berlin, so for us to swap the roles and present Copenhagen to Berlin's nightlife Clubcommission is something we have been looking forward to ever since.
Join us for our round table panel discussion on mental health and awareness in the club scene in Hangaren on Saturday (link in bio), and afterwards for our club night at Den Anden Side - both events are free (at DAS only if you arrive before 23:30)
