What does the public think of issues closely associated with the Make America Healthy Again movement? Our latest tracking poll finds: A majority of adults — across partisans, among MAHA supporters, and those who do not support the movement — say there’s not enough regulation of chemical additives in food (75%) or of pesticides used in agriculture (64%). Most of the public — across partisans and MAHA supporters — also share a distrust of federal health agencies and food and drug industries. Four in ten or fewer adults say they have at least some confidence in the CDC (40%), the FDA (36%), or the EPA (36%) to act independently without interference from outside interests. And less than half of adults trust agricultural companies (40%), food and beverage companies (25%), or pharmaceutical companies (21%) to act in the public’s best interest. Overall, voters are evenly divided on whether they trust Democrats (31%) or Republicans (27%) to handle the safety of food additives and pesticides. Meanwhile, more voters trust Democrats than Republicans to handle vaccine policy (41% vs 25%).

The data is good enough, the technology is getting better, the computing is becoming more available, and the use cases are getting clearer — but is AI truly a revolutionary technological advancement yet for health care? This week’s episode features Dr. John Halamka — emergency physician, medical informatics expert, and president of the Mayo Clinic Platform. Drawing on 30+ years in the field, he breaks down what digital health has delivered, where it’s fallen short, and discusses the future of AI in health care.

Our latest poll tracks the views of voters who support the Make America Healthy Again movement. Some key takeaways: • MAHA voters across partisans identify lowering the cost of health care as their top health priority — more than other issues that are more closely associated with the movement. • More MAHA voters say the cost of health care will have a major impact on their decision to vote and which party’s candidate they’ll support in the upcoming midterm elections than who say the same about vaccine policy or food safety. • MAHA voters are more supportive than other voters of the Trump Administration’s food and vaccine policies. However, less than 1 in 3 “strongly approve” of such policies, and similar shares of MAHA voters disapprove.

AI is already changing how people access health care, and many are already using it, including for mental health support. What stood out to me in this new report from @kff_org is the tension: people are turning to AI for health information while also saying they don’t fully trust it. That matters because AI is not neutral. It reflects the systems, data, and design choices behind it, which means it can either help expand access or deepen the inequities that already exist in health care. The fact that Black and Latino adults are more likely to use AI for mental health support makes this even more urgent. If communities are already using these tools, then equity, transparency, accountability, and community voice cannot be added later. They have to be built in from the start. Grateful to collaborate with @kff_org on this important conversation. Full report at the link in my bio.

Our latest tracking poll finds that health care costs continue to top the public’s list of economic anxieties, even as fuel prices and economic uncertainty rose following the start of the Iran war. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults are worried about being able to afford health care costs — the same share who are worried about gasoline or other transportation costs.
