Medium, Paradox, Era - Piece 4
This project explores the contradiction between material, time, and cultural belief through contemporary fashion artefacts, centred on structural exploration and craft as its medium. It grew from my response to tensions within my hometown‘s Daur community, where cultural contradiction meets contemporary consumerism. By gathering materials with different characteristics through cold connections, the work allows tension to be felt.
The project understands making as a way of thinking and material as a form of language. Through crafting, materials are treated as elements that influence decision-making. Making becomes a process of working in dialogue with material.
Rather than resolving contradiction, the project keeps conflict within structure and craft.
I created a series of fashion artefacts using antler, wood, horn, silver, copper, and Hi-Macs, combining handcraft with self-developed connection systems to bring materials into a single object, reflecting an ongoing paradox of our time.
