I’ve been sitting on this way too long. In 2024, I attended Sunsets and Shadows @sunsets.shadows.gathering and met so many people who are now my Reno family. Fast forward to 2025 summer and I was asked to play the first sunrise. The assignment: “deep dark and groovy” is the sound of the event. But 6am. So I took that as a challenge to create a journey of something that has two layers of deep dark and groovy, and light and optimism. I have so many things to be thankful for when it comes to @sunsets.shadows.gathering . One of those is how I was trusted to contribute to the overall vibe of the main stage. Last year was my first time to Sunsets and Shadows. One night, I said to @travis_j_rose , “hey, so I’ve got 20-something par can lights…” and before I could finish my sentence, he said, “for the trees!” I knew then that we were cut from the same cloth. We continued to chat and that also led to SAS moving to this beautiful secret location that I’ve always been in love with. I forgot to take photos of the final lighting of the trees behind @michelangeloquilici ’s incredible stage but thankfully, here’s a beautifully captured shot from @erindonnellyellis . Standing there on Friday night, seeing the stage, the lights, the stage behind us, the fire art from Joshua, the community gathered…I cannot describe how fortunate and grateful I felt to be a part of this special gathering. Thank you to everyone, whether you were a performer, a volunteer, or just contributing by being one of the amazing souls there. Each one of us made it the special gathering that it is.
