When
@kevinisbell and I began talking about what I wanted my Los Angeles office to feel like, I said “like home”, and he heard me, as good designers and good friends do.
My favorite color is blue, and Kevin chose the loveliest shade for the ceiling, my built-in cabinet, and my lacquer desk, which we made in our New York studio. The shelf has plenty of room for personal photos, books, things I have collected like shells, lacquer boxes, books, and my own watercolor paintings.
He found the fabulous chairs on
@chairishco , but they had decidedly un-fabulous fabric on them at the time. While I was on a hike with his husband, Gianantonio
@bemindful247 I placed the winning bid on Ebay for the gorgeous
@fortunyvenezia fabric, which now covers them. We jumped up and down with excitement on the trail at 7 am and the other hikers in Runyon Canyon must have been baffled 😂
The paper lantern was a ridiculously inexpensive online purchase, plain white, which I then covered with free form hand cut circles of brown tissue paper, painted a pattern with sizing, and covered here and there with 24 karat gold. That was a homework assignment from Kevin, which I dreaded at the time, but I’m now so happy that he asked me do it. It makes me smile every time I look up.
My office is an artful mix of beloved items I already had, new things we found, and the result is a room I absolutely love spending time in. Thank you, Kevin 😘
The beautiful photos of my office, a couple of which appear in our new book, The Art Of Gracie, published by

Decorate with pieces you love and you can’t go wrong. This was the very first installation of our new Tortuga design. This idea had been dancing around in my head for some time. I love pattern on pattern 💕
