Prepping a new anvil stand from solid (very dry!) Oak with hand tools is no easy task!
This tool is called a froe, and its used to drive down through the grain of the wood and split away large pieces.
You can use it to safely chop firewood very effectively. In the past it was also used to make thin sheets of rot-resistant wood like cedar for "shingles", roof tiles.
It's a struggle when the grain isnt straight like in this stand.... in the end I admit I broke out the chainsaw 😂

My lovely wife stole the first clock for our home so I had to make another for the forge.
Decided to put markers around the edge this time. Not my best decision: they cast confusing shadows on the wall so you still cant tell the time 🤣
I've ordered new (larger) hands also to see if that helps.
Perhaps more clocks are NOT in my future after all...!
