A new, āupscale, approachableā concept from the owners of one of Lexingtonās most popular restaurants is about to open in the back of its original downtown location.
Carsonās Back Porch is opening May 18 at 321 E. Vine St. with a menu of more seafood and steaks, including prime cuts, than its two sister restaurants, Carsonās Food & Drink on Main and at Andover.
The new restaurant is opening after an extensive renovation in the former Gusās World Famous Fried Chicken location, which closed last August.

The coffee drought in Midway is over.
Almost two years after Black Type Co. closed, a new coffee shop and lounge is open at 137 E Main St. overlooking historic downtown Midway.
@serendipitypublichouse opened at the end of April with a menu of tea, coffee, pastries, beer, wine, specialty cocktails and small bites including charcuterie and butter boards.
The 1850s building was renovated for just over a year by Caitlin Battaglia and Henry Zahn, who is the oldest of two kids of actor Steve Zahn and author Robyn Peterman Zahn.

Green River Distilling Co. has released a honey bourbon, so Herald-Leader reporters gave it a try. Made with locally sourced honey and a four-year-old Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon, our reporters found it to be smooth and less sweet than the typical honey bourbon. š„
A former college classmate of Kentucky state Rep. Daniel Grossberg alleges he assaulted her when the two attended Grinnell College more than two decades ago. A police report filed at the time documented the woman's account. Grossberg, a Democrat who has served in the Kentucky House for more than three years, denied the allegation. Since 2024, eight other women have made allegations against Grossberg.
Wildcask Bourbon, the whiskey produced by students in the University of Kentucky James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits, has released its second edition. It's a 100-proof blend of whiskeys from Jim Beam, Four Roses and two Bardstown Bourbon barrels.

We got our hands on the limited edition Peach Ale-8. The Kentucky-based company has introduced the flavor twice, in 2023 and 2024, before bringing it back this year.
Trained by Cherie DeVaux and ridden by Jose Ortiz, Golden Tempo emerged from a field of 18 horses to win the 152nd Kentucky Derby. The horse just claimed the win, edging out a late-charging Renegade at the finish line.
