Last Wednesday night, in partnership with Tremont West Development Corporation (@tremont.cleveland ), CUDC met with community members and stakeholders of the HBR-MCC (Tremont) neighborhood for their final community meeting and open house of the microplanning process. This final meeting was the culmination of 10 months of dedicated work on the HBR-MCC Microplan. The Microplan makes recommendations based on (4) themes heard throughout the planning process: Neighborhood connections & safety, Greenspace & Environmental, Housing & Commercial, and Branding & Wayfinding. Before and after the presentation of recommendations within the plan, community members spoke with CUDC and @tremont.cleveland staff members about how the plans and visions align with the overall vision for the neighborhood. CUDC and TWDC were happy to see familiar and new faces alike as the presentation marked a milestone of completion of planning, so that implementation can start to get underway.
CUDC and TWDC will present the final plan to City of Cleveland’s Planning Commission June 5 with the intent for the document to be adopted as an official City document. Stay tuned as the final bit of the planning process unfolds and we share more of the work!

Our Master of Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture, and Master of Urban Design students located at our Cleveland Studios @ksucudc gave their final presentations of the Index Studio. Under the guidance of Diane Davis Sikora, this graduate studio investigates new frameworks for urban repair and ecological remediation within Cleveland’s post-industrial landscape. Through a comparative lens, the students explored two distinct biomes - Cleveland’s mixed forest ecosystem and the semi-arid landscapes of Mexico City and Querétaro - uncovering shared challenges and innovative strategies for recovery.
Their work focuses on the persistence of soil and water toxicity, addressing decades of industrial impact through design approaches that unfold over time - not as singular solutions, but as phased processes of regeneration. From retrofitting infrastructures to imagining adaptive forms of habitation, we question how architecture can actively participate in healing environments suspended between contamination and renewal.
Through research, indexing, and design speculation, students developed proposals that operate across scales - from city systems to material assemblies - emphasizing resilience, adaptability, and care.

As part of the @kentcaed Master of Urban Design Practicum, Courtside to Cleveland is a temporary public‑space activation that reimagines an outdoor basketball court through participatory placemaking and low‑cost programming.
This past weekend, soon to be dual degree M.Arch and MUD graduate James Settle (and @ksucudc graduate assistant) engaged the community to explore how short‑term, experimental interventions can generate new uses, social connections, and insights for neighborhood public space.
The activation tests the impact of time‑limited recreational and visual interventions on social use and community interaction. The event featured organized basketball games alongside interactive elements that invited real‑time, documented, and reflective participation, encouraging creative input and community‑driven dialogue around public space design.
