I first saw Anthony play around 1970. We were both teenagers at the time, both playing at the same venue, jazz springs, in Bronx, NYC, though we hadn’t met yet. I was already living in New York, and I think he had just moved back when we eventually crossed paths. Later on, when we began making basses, Anthony borrowed one here and there to try out. During that time, he suggested we make them with two pickups—in those early days, we were only building them with one. From that point forward, every bass we made had two pickups. Eventually, Anthony expressed interest in a six-string bass, which we built for him—a couple years before we made a five-string. Beyond instruments and music, we knew each other personally. Anthony was a true visionary, a genius, and a pioneer. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
