We have our first production update on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, courtesy of Lightstorm producer Rae Sanchini!
Speaking to press, Sanchini indicated that pre-production on James Cameron’s final two Avatar films is moving ahead, with the LA-based production company evaluating everything needed to make them happen. Budget, process and timeline are all under scrutiny as the studio decides the best way to bring the films to life.
As of now, Sanchini seems to expect that the planned release dates of 2029 and 2031 will not hold, though she remains optimistic that they will be able to find the right balance to produce the final two Avatar films in the coming years.
This is the first tangible update on the status of the Avatar franchise since Avatar: Fire and Ash hit theaters in December, going on to earn an astounding $1.5 billion in its theatrical run.
