Kelly Milukas
City LIghts

Detail
Congratulations to Kelly Milukas on her acceptance into the Weight of Light Anthology.
She describes her piece, "Working in semi-abstraction for this Manhattan city-shape painting, drawing develops a sense of the intense, constant, artificial illumination, creating dancing city lights. Essential value masses form the anchor shapes among the foreground buildings, receding skyscrapers, the distant nocturnal sky, and the momentum of energy trapped in the atmosphere. The weight of urban light exerts tangible forces, ranging from electric nightlife to severe urban pollution and a sense of perpetual wakefulness."

We are delighted to welcome @kellymilukas back to #paintingwithfirevol5 this week with her new lesson, “Bonded Pastel & Encaustic.” ✨
In this inventive and exploratory session, Kelly introduces a fascinating way of combining pastel with encaustic, opening new possibilities for surface, texture, and mark-making.
Working with the rich, velvety qualities of pastel alongside the luminous depth of wax, Kelly demonstrates how these two mediums can be bonded together to create layered, tactile works. Through experimentation and discovery, she shows how soft atmospheric passages, bold gestures, and subtle transitions can emerge when these contrasting materials meet.
It’s a beautiful reminder that some of the most exciting creative breakthroughs happen when we allow different materials to speak to one another.
Lesson is live now!
