Recently I’ve been struggling with the feeling that I’ve already written everything good/helpful/funny that’s in me. But then I said to myself “Hmm this seems statistically unlikely given my age, my family genetics, and the fact that I currently have approximately 12,000 creative projects underway.” I mean, If my final contribution to humanity is scribbling “thank you for smiling at me” on a Post-it and handing it to a smiling cashier at Popeye’s, I’ll probably still help somebody before I die, right? Even accidentally? So WOW I knew what I needed to hear, which was great, since other people would have never been able to guess. Even people I’m close to. But then (and this was the sweet surprise) I told a few people I’m close to and their instant reaction was to affirm affectionately, “yup, that’s true knucklehead!” All that to say: huh, sometimes what I need to hear can only come from me, but the people in my life are often thrilled to be backup singers in my self-esteem choir!
