February the 10th I celebrated 10 years of living here in this jungle by the sea. Looking back, the decision to move here seems like divine intervention of some sort⦠itās made a massive impact on my life and how I live.
When I arrived, the feeling of serenity was profound. I would spend every day outside in nature, out on the beach running, swimming or surfing. My long stalled meditation practice rekindled and I began doing yoga consistently for the first time. The lingering anxieties I still carried from city life started to melt away. This place made it easy to live with more intention and gratitude. Bad habits and unhealthy relationships all began to fall away. All these changes set me up for my next chapter, Hannah.
We met in Guatemala in 2015. I asked her āthe questionā on Valentines Day 2016, and we officially joined forces as a family in January 2017. We moved quickly... making babies, building a house, growing our businesses. Those first few years together were a whirlwind.
I shutter to think, none of this would have happened without all the changes Iād made to my life. Changes that were a direct result of living here, in this magical place. Hannah as well, had gone through her own series of shifts and turns leading up to us meeting. Serendipity, synchronicity, fate? Whatever it was, itās a beautiful thing that brought us together. I love our life together, our family, our place here on earth. I love you Hannah. It just keeps getting better ā¤ļø
Cosmo is 5! (Monday the 15th)
Words cannot fully express the love and gratitude we feel for this dude. The joy he brings into our life is boundless. His spirit and curiosity inspires us everyday. As I'm writing this he is playing with his Legos next to me and I just asked him, half jokingly... "what do you think is your defining characteristic?" He replied, asking for clarification "what do you mean papa?" I say, "Is there one word that describes you best?" After a moment of genuine reflection his answer... "Love"
Followed by the warmest smile.
Happy Solar Return Momo!!!
When you dig down to the roots of Valentines Day, you discover Lupercalia, a Pagan festival celebrating fertility. The festival involved the sacrificing of animals, lavish feasts, and then everyone would run around naked while whipping each other until finding someone to mate with.
Hannah my love, although we didn't meet in this way (our story is better), we did get the celebration of fertility part correct. We know how to make beautiful little babes, and there isn't anyone else I would rather be creating and celebrating this life with.
Ozzy is ONE!
My capacity for love certainly expanded when this little dude joined our family. One year ago today he splashed down into our bathtub, and heās been lighting us up ever since. His spirit is strong and his smile infectious. Walking at 9 months, and then running soon after⦠now heās always climbing, jumping, and keeping us on high alert.
Looking for pictures of him, I had to laugh that heās naked or only in nappies in every shot I have. This jungle baby does occasionally wear clothes, but I donāt have any photographic evidence.
The last 2 photos are from today. We spent our time laughing, swimming and āboatingā in our river and celebrating him to the fullest. We then made the mistake of giving him a little bit of cake and he got super spun out and now heās finally crashed out. A very good day. ā¤ļø
Spooky Sauce made on Halloween
Habanero, mango, lime, vinegar, garlic, and salt. The batch is almost gone, it worked out. I hope I can get this same color and flavor again the next time I make it. #habanero #mango #picanteš¶
This island has been a rock for me⦠literally and figuratively. Iāve been swimming out to it to sit and think and reflect for many years now. Itās a routine that helps me find clarity on decisions, big and small. It always gives me a fresh perspective on ideas and directions to pursue.
This island also serves as a symbol for me of this place Iāve found that I now feel is home. Discovering and relocating myself to this spot of the earth has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. Every year that Iāve been here has been better than the last. Today, and every other time Iāve made this swim, I feel gratitude for this life and this place.
Our little punk Ozai is 6 months old today. He inspires the big smiles with everyone.
Until I became a parent, I never knew how much personality and character is ābaked inā to a baby. It seems to me that itās way more innate than ālearnedā or ādevelopedā. Anyway... we got lucky with this one, super lucky. We love you Ozzy!
Iguanas are awesome.
This photo was taken from the balcony of our house. She is maybe 1-1.5 meters from snout to tail. They get around 2 meters when fully grown.
When I was a kid I was a total reptile nerd and had a few iguanas as pets. Iām super grateful that I now get to have them around, but now theyāre free and happy in their natural habitat... and I donāt have to feed or clean up after them.
