Giant paper making workshop in @ucbplatform !!!
Made some super fun colored pulp from natural foraged and recycled materials as well as some plant textured embossing. We pulled one giant 5x4 foot sheet of paper!
As artists living in a system of efficiency, we are shaped to forget the importance of slowness and process. Understanding where, how, and when our materials are made can provide another perspective on how we observe and interpret the world. Making your own pigments and paper from collected materials around berkeley teaches intentional slowness, curiosity, and resourcefulness. As artists, we can be self-sustaining by collecting foraged materials that allow us to be in touch with the state of the climate crisis and feel more connected with our surroundings. We become more thoughtful about where we spend our money and how we can contribute less and less to overwhelming pollution. Come learn the basics of making your own forged art!
Bamboo Pen and Natural Ink Workshop
Wednesday, September 10th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Platform Art Space
Participants will learn how to forage materials from the Berkeley landscape that can create their own natural inks and pigments. Using bamboo pulled from the platform space, we will learn how to whittle our own drawing utensils and make materials that will last. We will learn how to process plants to create pigments that reflect localism, sustainability, and the artist’s personal touch– reflecting a relationship and history within the material.
A Giant Paper-Making Workshop
Saturday, September 20th, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Platform Art Space
Participants will learn how to use found natural materials, as well as fibrous recycled materials, to create giant sheets of paper. As a community, we will experiment with foraged plant fibers and pull large sheets of recycled paper together. We will learn how to create beautiful sheets that can be used with various mediums.
Bring old books, egg cartons, old paper, flowers, or anything made of fiber to be blended into a recycled pulp mixture.
Platform Art Space is located at the southern courtyard of Bauer Wurster Hall, facing Bancroft Way.

often I think I can’t upload things on here too quickly because I have to fully think through these projects that I cranked out in school for years. so many versions of something I’m thinking about can manifest in so many mediums beautifully. it’s funny how cyclical it can be and that this project, ‘slowly I wash my hands of time’, has grown so slowly. what started with a mad libs songwriting experiment with a friend turned into something I’ve thought about for years. this is: slowly I wash my hands of time part 2, drawn with cyanotype with ink and quill, paintbrush, and some negatives, washed out slowly— not to rip the found vintage acid paper notebook.
