Got offered a CBE in the last round. Call me old fashioned, but after four plus decades of working to critique the legacies of the British Empire, I couldn’t imagine myself as one of its ‘Commanders’.
However, noticing in the ‘socials’ that some of my colleagues and comrades have been dressing-up to get theirs. Big congratulations to all for well deserved recognition! (all of us deserve medals just for being out here!). Would have loved to have joined you on the lawn of Big House sipping champagne with Chuck or Willy, and I love some bling as much as the next brother!! However, ‘Excellence not Empire’ (it can still be done).
