5 Creativity Hacks That Helped Me Find My Originality
(+ a bonus tip)
1. MOVEMENT MEMORY — Learn From Life, Not Just Dance
Train your eyes. Notice how people walk, objects fall, and environments move.
My example: I grew up on martial-arts films like Ong Bak.
The roundhouse-kick energy stuck with me — now a dance version of it became one of my signature moves.
2. GENRE SWITCH — Use Different Music Styles
Train with a wide range of genres:
funk, krump music, house, rock, blues, jazz, experimental, hip hop, drill, trap, afro, dancehall, baile, classical.
Also explore polyrhythms, 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, and e.g. piano → forte dynamics.
Different genres bring out different timing and movement qualities.
3. BODY BLUEPRINT — Explore What Your Body Already Does
Before chasing new moves, understand your natural range, rhythm, balance, and coordination.
Try movements slower, faster, softer, sharper, higher, lower.
Creativity grows when you expand what you already have.
4. BRAIN FOOTAGE — Visualize + Borrow From Everywhere
Take ideas from anime, movies, sports, animals, and everyday life.
Add 5–10 minutes of visualization — imagine the move clearly.
Your brain learns the pattern first; your body follows quicker.
5. PERSONALIZE THE DRILL — Learn It Clean, Then Make It Yours
Learn the drill exactly as taught.
Then adjust it: direction, level, speed, or texture (soft, sharp, heavy, light).
This builds your style while keeping technique solid.
6. BONUS TIP — Rest for Consolidation
After training, take a quiet break.
Your brain processes everything better, and repetition the next day builds long-term improvement.
