my grandmothers sister always travels with me as she used to work for the airlines and is one of the most well traveled in our family. she got on a plane with days notice to meet me in germany and our last night we got so drunk catching up we made friends with everyone in the bar, the owner (thanks for rolling that j with the weed you grow in your apt?). being faded in the middle of nowhere with my grandma’s sister. prevailing what women can do and be in our familial story, full of adventure, freedom and somehow laughter in every stage of life. i was so glad to have her to help me through that hump of the trip— we dubbed the term “subject to change” that night as i was starting to feel after 2 weeks backpacking that i was directionally challenged as it pertained to my big bad life as a 27 year old. she promptly shut that down by reminding me of who i was and then we went off to our next adventure for a wanderless stroll and a bev 🍻

on our last day of our marseille trip, we ran into a pair of guys we met on our first day at the beach (who we were trying to barter either cigarettes or weed for an exchange for cheese and sausage). the day we ran into him, i supposed we all had the same idea to watch the sunset as it so happened to be the guy’s birthday lmao?! we were just waiting til our dinner reservation when we’d ran into him and his friends. he says, “i’m so happy you’re here! i’m so happy to celebrate this day with you!” it was a stamp on my euro trip that kindness did still exist and thankfully life could still surprise me. gratitude for actually not always being in control and having the capacity to reach places my family has dreamed about. it all felt really special in that the way i was being greeted to return to this life lesson/principle was through kindness and community. thank god people still spoke like that and i had evidence through witnessing it. it was a relief to know the world still contained love in this way— funnily enough my mom and I were just reminiscing on that time period when she said, “you made it out, kyndal.” may i keep my heart open despite, despite, despite!

The second leg of the trip was Marseille, which I had actually yet to visit France ever. I had only met 2 out of the 3 people on this trip, and all were from my footy community I’d just started playing in earlier that summer. It just felt like a privilege to be able to be in the position to travel and experience the trip at all. I was still angsty from events back home but was slowly beginning to settle in. The color of the ocean felt like it was too good to be true, calling me to just give in to the fact that I was doing this—to put down the worries about stepping away from home and just stay where I was. Enjoy the day you’re actively in and stop worrying about tomorrow. It was hard to release that control and disconnect from stress, which was telling giving I was on somewhat of a vacation. That trip meant a loooot for me in terms of breaking generational hurdles. The most c’est bon 💙

A rabbit symbolizes innocence. A symbol such as a rabbit, contrast against a dark setting illuminates the viewer’s distortion of, said ‘rabbit’s’ position and emotions/response as reflection of the viewer’s inner psyche. The rabbit’s experience in the story becomes the center focus of the narrative. What’s happening? What position are they in? The transformation of reputation speaks to the point of possibility, as typically seen in film to the possibility of horror, and creation of evil/fear of innocent and mundane things ability to be mounted into evil. Looney looks at how that metaphorical evil manifests into our relationships—whether that be world, people, oneself, familial, career, romantic, life itself—and ultimately our perception/experience of life. Rabbit’s innocuous character offers an opportunity for the viewer to effortlessly enter the story and be transformed. Known for their ability to breed quickly, I guess I hope that courage, love and kindness can too become just as contagious.
