Flowy skirts, fringed boots, and “boho chic” became the unofficial dress code of San Luis Obispo on May 2 and 3, as community members and music lovers alike ran, frolicked and danced their way through the gates of Shabang Music Festival. With the sun peeking out through the foggy sky and complimented by a light breeze, the rolling green hills of San Luis Obispo looked idyllic as ever.
For many, Shabang is a space of freedom – a place where people can let go of their daily lives for a weekend and exist in a world outside of their own.

Yo yo yo…you hear him before you see him...this is 「JUST PUGA」
But if we’re keeping it official…Diego Puga Escobar. (yeah, his first name isn’t Puga)
He is a first-gen, fourth-year COMS major with a Spanish minor…traveling 123 miles, give or take, between Salinas and SLO…straight from the 831 to the 805 (s/o the salad bowl)
If you knew Puga back then…yeah, not much has changed. Maybe a couple of pounds lighter…but still the same charismatic, enthusiastic little rascal. Coming from a family of four where the saying goes…Puga gets paid to shut up…while his brother gets paid to talk…somewhere along the way, he flipped that script.
Started off initially as a 2-minute bilingual reporter for Mustang News updates on KCPR…and somehow…never left. From sneaking in airtime to anchoring Wednesday PM news…featuring Puga’s Pop Quiz…where he pops the question, and YOU call in with the answer…
And of course…as said by the great Pat Howe…the “brave men and women of radio party”…the real reason he’s up way too early doing way too much.
When he’s not behind the mic…which is rare…like…very rare…(seriously, someone clock him out)…you might catch him on the street…late-night climbs at the pad…movies rolling…wings in hand…music filling every quiet second…as well as saving kittens from trees….and various other impressive good deeds…
But when he is in the stu…locked in…he’s doing what he does best…talking…a lot…but somehow making it sound like home....he lives a life a no actor can play....
If you’re wondering what he plays...tune in Wednesdays 7-9 pm following his anchor 1 news show....or check out his Spotify @ ohhpuga
JUST PUGA…on the mic…on the move…and not going anywhere anytime soon.
Notes from the DJ: Huge thank you to Jenna Brock for inspiring me to join KCPR, and shout out to Emmy Burrus for letting me in ...

Graduation has always been scary. While some students lean into the “Learn by Doing” philosophy and have an offer day one out-the-door, others figure things out in this less than ideal job market.
For the final Peak issue this year, the Peak team chose to hold exit interviews with nine students on the horizon of impact. Whether it’s going pro in a less-than usual sport, starting a cheesecake business or transforming the music marketing scene, nine seniors in the class of 2026 stood out as those led by influence.
Read about their journeys through Cal Poly and where they’re headed next at all newsstands today.
