As we approach the end of another season, Iâm halfway through my 100 favourite photos feature in the #ManCity official programme. Last nightâs offering was a photo of Michael Stipe out of REM, on a trip when we met Mikhail Gorbachev, the Former President of the Soviet Union #REM #MichaelStipe
Congratulations to Gail on publication day of her brilliant new book about Marilyn Monroe and her library. If you love books, youâll love books about books and this book repositions Marilyn as a woman with a thirst for knowledge and an avid reader, not the ditzy blonde most men write about. Itâs a wonderful book, full of Hollywood anecdotes. It takes you through Marilynâs personal library with warmth and affection and many surprises re the Hollywood star everyone thinks they know. This gorgeous book will help you reevaluate your opinion of Monroe from the âtragic blonde bombshellâ to the intelligent actor she undoubtedly was. Itâs my book of the year and I guarantee itâll be yours when you read it. #MarilynMonroe #Hollywood #books Available wherever books are sold online or bookstores IRL
Iâm back in Manchester on Thursday with Mike Pickering, talking about Mikeâs recently published book: Manchester Must Dance, which is a lovely evocative read. His enthusiasm for the music shines through on the page, and you find yourself constructing a playlist while reading it. Iâm loosely interviewing him, which makes a change for me, and Iâm looking forward to it immensely. I think itâs sold out, but returns might be available. And yes, we will be talking about #ManCity too #manchester #dance #hacienda #MikePickering
A perfect day for cricket at The Oval today. The art of fashioning a paper boat hat out of a newspaper spread seems to be long forgotten. This is more prosaic but just as effective . #cricketl #Surrey #Kiaoval #surreyccc
Weâre now on for our 7th FA Cup Final since 2011 (when this picture of me kissing the iconic trophy was taken). Itâs our 34th game at Wembley since 2011 (32 with fans). FA Cup SF: 11 (9 with fans allowed); 7 FA Cup finals (incl next month v Chelsea); 7 League Cup Finals; 7 Community Shields and two league games when Tottenham were rebuilding WHL (both of which we won bizarrely đ¤Ł). We also played two Community shield games away from Wembley. The Chelsea final will be my 40th City match at Wembley. My first was 1969 v Leicester and apart from the two Covid locked door games I havenât missed a single game weâve played there since then. Yes even the Full Members Cup Final v Chelsea and obv the epoch-making game v Gillingham #ManCity

This week, in celebration of Record Store Day (April 18), we're revisiting Kevin Cummins' photograph of Marc Bolan from 1977. The image is now available as a special open-edition 12âx16â fine art print, hand signed by Cummins. It will also adorn the cover of the forthcoming Record Store Day special release Songs from âMarcâ, a vinyl LP of live performances from the six-part TV series Bolan filmed less than a month before his death.
On 24 August 1977, Kevin Cummins was at Granada Studios in Manchester for the filming of Marc, a six-part TV series featuring performances from Marc Bolan alongside newer acts like Generation X and The Jam. David Bowie, Bolanâs friend, would appear as the final guest.
With his mainstream glitter-rock peak behind him, Bolan was in the process of reinventing himself in a post-punk/new wave climate. The image Cummins captured of him that day â strutting along the stage, mic in hand, peering nonchalantly into a yawning darkness above which his name glows in Art Deco neon letters â is all the more haunting in light of the fact that Bolan would die in a car crash less than a month later.
Record Store Day will see the release of Songs From âMarcâ, a vinyl LP of live performances from the series. Cumminsâ cover image is as symbolic of the photographerâs career trajectory as it is of Bolanâs fate. In 1977, Glam rock was dead and Bolan needed to evolve, pivoting towards a burgeoning post-punk/new wave scene that Kevin Cummins would go on to extensively document, capturing now famous images of Joy Division, Blondie and The Fall.

Itâs my lovely daughterâs birthday on 10 April and itâs fair to say she likes a sports hat. Weâve had loads of brilliant times together - Istanbul being the highlight of course. But just being able to hang out together as mates is such fun. I never had that relationship with my parents and Iâm so happy that things are different these days @ellbop #ManCity
