We need better leaders. He says we are taking that quote out of context. The context is the nothing heās been doing for anyone but himself and his books. Iāve been in this industry a long time and I havenāt seen it. Has he called out book banning? Has he lifted disenfranchised creators? Has he made books more available to children in underserved communities? š¤·āāļøYou can sit on that stage and cry āhyperbole,ā but if you are the Ambassador of Childrenās Literacy, be responsible with it. At least I know Iām in very good company with that 94.7%. I donāt know who needs to hear this (yes I do) but kids need all kinds of books by all kinds of creators with all kinds of perspectives. And sure, I donāt love everything I read, but that doesnāt mean I donāt see its value or I think itās mostly crud. And when I have negative opinions, I keep them to myself. Publishing that kind of take in a book for everyone to read at the expense of those youāre supposed to be championing is a spectacularly cruddy thing to do.
