Yoko's Diary
The genesis of our play, was initially found after the bombing and Yoko's passing, and given to the family, all of whom survived, it wouldn't be published and given to the world by Koji, Yoko’s older brother, for another 60 years.
While the diary was a graded homework assignment, there are cracks that leak truths about Yoko that are further given color by testaments included in the diaries publishing. People such as Hatsue Ueda and Koji add there insights into her life. In our play there are no fictitious characters. And almost every line delivered by Yoko is structured off of her diary or recollections given by people in her life.

KAZUE PECK is a third-generation A-bomb survivor, and she is originally from Yokohama, Japan. She is an actor, translator, and voiceover artist. Recent credits include Haruna Lee’s “49 Days” at the National Playwrights Conference and Izumi Kasagi’s “the far side of the moon” at Japan Society. Other highlights include “After the Rain” and “Sundown” at La MaMa, “Kutsukake Tokijiro” at The Flea, “Jewtopia” at Broward Stage Door, and “Katachino Katachi” at Shinjukui-Land Hall.
In “The Diary of Yoko Moriwaki” she portrays Masae Moriwaki, Yoko’s Mother.

13-year-old girl Yoko Moriwaki kept a diary for four months leading up to her death on August 6, 1945, the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
80 years from that day, I’ll be in a new play based on her diary. I feel honored to be a part of the storytelling, especially as a third-generation A-bomb survivor.
The writer/director Dan Abella’s message resonates…the first casualties of war are the innocent
