While out at camp in early August I asked @bobwagner to play a songwriting game with me. We had recently visited (for the nth time) the @breadandpuppet theater in Glover, VT, one of our favorite places on earth and a true living treasure of modern American theater. As always, in the following days the show & the experience of being there conjured deep conversations (and yearnings within us) regarding the romance of: intentional art communities, the god spirits of art itself, of going ‘back to the land’, of a way of life focused only on what matters most & that leaves the rest behind… a cavernous longing for ‘an existing better world’. The day before I suggested the game I had gifted Bob a copy of a book of photographs & essays called Rehearsing with Gods (words by Marc Estrin/photos by Ronald T. Simon), and it was with this book that we played the game, quickly & playfully marking passages & pages that spoke to us with torn strips of notebook paper. Together at sunset, on a blanket at the shore of the lake we reconceptualized the words over fingerpicked guitar and the song “Take Me With You” was quickly born. We look forward to sharing it with you this Friday ♥️♥️♥️
