How wonderful to see previous participant @kattbrownposts Swedish @philiphog sneakers continue their transformation in the hands of Iwona, a participant at our recent @melbfashionfestival #thisisnotashoe workshop. How lovely to think that the same pair of shoes is being worn simultaneously by two people in opposite hemispheres, one in the UK and one in Australia!

My Philip Hog Stockholm trainers (@philiphog ) have, after immeasurable steps, earned an afterlife, and it was such a pleasure to work alongside ‘This Is Not A Shoe’ to give them just that. @this.is.not.a.shoe , @sherlock_alexandra , @penniejagiello .
There is potential to transform many elements of these shoes, but the metallic decorative stripes were a good place to start; they are already a statement. The leather panels were unpicked and unstuck and made into two different pieces of jewellery:
Wound around my arm, the silver panels spiral in their afterlife as a bracelet, almost like rings inside a tree. I loved joining each strip with a stitch, creating a long length, with a little support from a new leather off-cut. The bracelet represents the circle of life and the individual strips the different stages of life, I think the contrast of the new supporting the old here is beautiful.
The dark panels, freed from their earthly binds and threaded on to beautiful sterling sliver hoops (handmade by Pennie), are now able to dance on high in their afterlife, as earrings. I think there is something feather-like about the marks on the panels and the way they hang, suspended in air. And the slightly damaged areas are equally as beautiful as the pristine parts, telling their story and giving a message that worn is just as worthy as new.
